What to check if you are not receiving Timeline notifications toggle

If you are not receiving Timeline notifications, please refer to this article regarding Timeline notification settings.
 

If you are unable to resolve your issue after checking the above article, please try these basic steps.

General solutions toggle

If you are having issues with LINE, first please try the following:

 

• Close all running apps.

• Restart your device and the app.

• Update LINE to the latest version.

 

Additionally, issues may occur if you do not use LINE with the recommended system specifications. Please see here for the recommended system specifications.

Note: We do not offer support for devices that are jailbroken or rooted.

 

If you experience network errors or images do not appear properly, please try the following:

 

• Delete any unnecessary apps and data on your device.

• Check if your network connection has any restrictions or filtering services in place.

• Clear the LINE app's cache.

 

To clear the LINE app's cache:

1. On your device go to Settings > Apps > LINE.

2. Check under STORAGE > tap Clear data.

Timeline Crashes

Timeline crashes toggle
If the app crashes when you try to view the Timeline, there may be Unicode characters on it. Please register an email address to your account and check for any Unicode characters on the PC version of LINE using the following articles.

Please log in using the email address and password you registered to your LINE account.

If you find a post with the Unicode characters, please block the friend who posted it and see if it solves the issue.

Issues with Posts

Issues with Posts

Certain friends' posts don't appear toggle
Your friends' posts will not appear on your Timeline if:
• You currently have (or previously had) them added to your Timeline hidden list.
• They currently have (or previously had) you added to their Blocked users list.
• Their Share settings for Timeline are set to Excluded.

The moment you add someone to your Timeline hidden list, all of their posts are excluded from Timeline. Even if you remove them from the list by going to Settings > Timeline > Timeline hidden list, you will not be able to see their Timeline posts for the period that you were hiding them.
Note: You will only be able to view Timeline posts made after you removed the user from your Timeline hidden list.

None of my friends' posts appear on Timeline toggle
If you didn't transfer your account when changing devices, etc.
The Timeline that appeared on your old account is not designed to appear on your new account. Even if you add your friends again, you cannot display the Timeline posts that they made up to that point.
Note: You can view older posts on your friends’ profiles.

If a friend's new Timeline posts don't appear
Please have that friend check whether their Timeline Share settings for you are set to Included.

Issues with Images

Images are not appearing on Timeline or my profile toggle
If images are not appearing, please try:
• Checking the amount of memory available on your device and SD card.
• Re-downloading the stickers (if these are the images you're having issues with).

To re-download stickers:
1. From the Home/Friends or More tab, tap Settings > Stickers > Sticker set order.
2. Tap the red icon next to the relevant stickers > Delete > Delete.
3. From the Home/Friends or More tab, tap Settings > Stickers > Purchase history.
4. Tap the relevant stickers > Download.

If the issue persists after you've tried everything above, or if you're experiencing a different issue, please try the general solutions below.

Post and Display Settings

Post Settings

What can be posted on Timeline? toggle
You can post the following on Timeline:

• Text: Up to 10,000 characters per post.
• Photos and videos: Up to 20 per post.
• Regular stickers: Up to 20 per post.
• Sound, animated, and pop-up stickers: Up to 1 per post.
Note: These can't be posted with regular stickers.
• URLs and locations: Up to 1 each per post.

Timeline posts will also appear on your profile, and will be visible to your friends based on your Timeline privacy settings. If you don't want a post to be seen, you can limit the audience from the privacy settings before sharing it on your Timeline.

Making Timeline posts toggle
Depending on which version of LINE you're using, you can make posts to Timeline with one of the methods below.

Versions of LINE earlier than 8.12.0
• Tap the Friends tab > your profile > Home > the pencil icon at the bottom right.
• Tap the Timeline tab > the What's New? field, pencil icon, Camera or Stickers at the top of the screen.

LINE version 8.12.0 or later
• Tap the Friends tab > your profile > Posts or Photos/Videos > the pencil icon at the bottom right.
• Tap the Timeline tab > the pencil icon at the bottom right > Write or Camera.

Note: You can update to the latest version of LINE here.

Notifications for Likes and comments on your posts toggle
When someone Likes or comments on your post, a number will appear on the bell icon at the top of your Timeline. If you turn on Timeline notifications, you will also receive alerts on your smartphone’s notification screen.

Tap the comment you want to reply to, enter your reply, then tap Send.

Liking and commenting on Timeline/profile posts toggle
To like or comment on a post: 
1. Tap Timeline.
2. Under a post, tap and hold Like (the smiley face), or tap Comment (the speech bubble).

Liking posts
Tapping Like on a post is a quick and easy way to show that you enjoyed it. You can also tap and hold the Like button to choose from six LINE character faces with different reactions to show how you're feeling at the moment.

When you like a post that is set to public, it will be shared with friends on Timeline. If you don't want your Likes to be shared, uncheck "Share on Timeline" after tapping and holding the Like button.

Commenting on posts
Leave comments on posts to show how you feel about them using text, stickers, or photos. You can delete a comment you posted by tapping and holding it and then tapping Delete.

Editing or adding to posts toggle
To edit the content of a Timeline/profile post:

1. At the top right of the post you want to edit, tap "..." > Edit post.
2. After editing or adding information, tap Post at the top right.

If you're using a version of LINE earlier than 6.6, you won't be able to edit information other than written text or add information like photos or stickers once you've completed your post.

Only a certain number of posts are shown on the Timeline. If you want to see all of a friend’s posts, please go to their profile.

Using hashtags toggle
If you add the # symbol in front of text (e.g. #LINE) when you make a post, it will create a hashtag. Tapping a hashtag lets you view all posts that include the same hashtag.
Note: Posts with hashtags that you've made Public can be searched for and viewed by users other than your friends.

Try using hashtags when you want to share your posts with a larger audience.

Tagging friends toggle
Entering the @ symbol in front of a friend's name (e.g. @Brown) lets you tag them in a post.

When you tag friends, be sure that they're included in the privacy setting you select for the post.
Note: If the post is not shared with your friends, they will be unable to view it.

When the post is completed, the friends you tagged will be notified.

How to set a post to automatically delete itself toggle
You can choose your desired time to have a post automatically delete itself.

To set an auto-delete time, please refer to the following steps:

1. Enter the details for your post.
2. Tap "..." > Timer.
3. Choose the time you want the post to be deleted, then tap Post.

Please be aware that any Likes or comments on this post will also be deleted at the same time.

You can set which friends can participate in a relay.

If you want to share with all of your friends, just choose Friends under Who can join. You can also share a relay with close friends only by choosing a group or custom list of friends.

When you start a relay you can choose to send notifications to friends to join.

You can change the settings to notify friends by tapping the person icon on the top of the relay creation screen.

About birthday boards toggle
Birthday boards let you celebrate your friends' birthdays by sending them birthday cards and wish effects. When you create a birthday board in advance, it will appear for your friend to see at midnight on their birthday. 

To send birthday cards:
1. At the bottom of the birthday board, tap Write birthday card.
2. Enter a message, then tap the Send icon.

If you want to hide the card you create from everyone but you and the friend you're sending it to, choose "Write in secret".

You can also send birthday cards from birthday posts on Timeline.

To send wish effects:
Use either of the methods below.
• Tap the balloon icon at the bottom right of the birthday board.
• Tap the balloon icon in the center of a Timeline birthday post.

You can send up to 100 wish effects per friend, and they will only be seen by the friend you send them to.

You can also access the post screen before your friend's birthday from the birthday post creation notification on Timeline.

There is no limit to how long you can celebrate on a birthday board, and the content posted on one can be viewed at any time.

Your birthday post won't appear if you have the Show my birthday setting turned OFF.

 

To turn on this setting: 

1. Tap More > Settings.

2. Tap Profile > Birthday.

To post your location on Timeline: 
1. Tap Share location on the Timeline post screen.
2. Select your location and tap Share location.
3. Tap Post.

If you can't find the location you want to post, you can search for its name or address in the search field on the location selection screen.

Creating slideshows or GIFs with your photos and posting them on Timeline toggle
You can use multiple photos and a variety of effects to make slideshows or GIF animations and post them in Timeline.

The following customization options are available:
• Trim photos or add music, filters, and other effects when making slideshows.
• Change the size and playback speed for GIFs.

To make a slideshow or GIF and post it on Timeline: 
1. On the post editing screen, tap the icon at the bottom right > Create GIF or Create slideshow.
2. Select the photos you want to use and tap Next.
Note: The photos you select will appear at the bottom of the screen in the order they were selected. You can reorder them by tapping and holding them, then dragging them to the order of your choice.
3. Edit the content any way you like, then tap Done > Post.

Display and Privacy Settings

Hiding and sharing posts toggle
You can hide a Timeline or profile post from certain friends using one of the methods below.

To hide a post when you make it (for LINE versions 6.6 and later):
Tap the privacy settings (Friends, Public, Only me, or Close friends) at the top of the post editing screen.

If you select Only me from the privacy settings, you'll be the only person who can see the post.

If you only want to share a post with certain friends, please see here.

To hide your posts from Settings:
1. From the Home/Friends or More tab, Settings > Timeline.
2. Tap the Included tab at the top of the Share settings screen.
3. Tap Exclude next to the name of the friend(s) you want to hide your posts from.

If you exclude a friend from your share settings, they will no longer be able to view any of your posts.

To share your posts again with someone you excluded:
1. From the Home/Friends or More tab, Settings > Timeline.
2. Tap the Excluded tab at the top of the Share settings screen.
3. Tap Include next to the name of the friend(s) you want to share your posts with.

Sharing posts with only certain friends toggle
You can limit who is able to see your posts on Timeline or your profile by choosing a certain group to share with, or by creating a close friend list. Please use one of the methods below.

Change your privacy settings
You can do this when making your post.

1. Tap the Timeline tab > the pencil icon at the bottom right > Write.
2. Tap the globe icon at the top of the screen and choose your privacy setting.
Note: The privacy setting you choose will be the same the next time you post something.

Choose which friends can view your posts
1. Tap the Timeline tab > the pencil icon at the bottom right > Write.
2. Tap the globe icon at the top of the screen.
3. Under Friends, tap > next to All friends.
4. Tap Exclude or Include next to the name of your friends.
  
Use a close friend list
Make a close friend list and choose a privacy setting for each post.

1. Tap the Timeline tab > the pencil icon at the bottom right > Write.
2. Tap the globe icon at the top of the screen.

If you haven't made a list yet:
3. Under Friends, tap +Add close friend list.
4. Tap the members you want to add from the Friends or Groups tab > Next.
5. Rename your new list and tap Save at the top right.

If you've already made a list:
3. On the Friends tab, choose the close friend list you want to share your post with.

Hiding Timeline posts from new friends toggle
By default, Timeline and profile posts are automatically made visible to newly added friends. To change this setting, please follow the steps below.

1. From the Home/Friends or More tab, tap Settings.
2. Tap Timeline.
3. Turn Allow New Friends OFF.

Hiding posts by specific friends on Timeline toggle
Your friends' posts will appear on your Timeline.

If you do not want to see posts from certain friends, please refer to the steps below to hide them.

1. Tap "..." at the top right of a post by the friend whose posts you want to hide.
2. Tap Hide all posts from this user > OK.

Note:
- If you have set to hide posts from a friend, all of their posts will be removed and newer post will not appear on your Timeline.
- Friends will not be notified when you hide them.

Please follow the steps below to unhide a friend and see their new posts.

1. Tap the Friends or More tab > Settings.
2. Tap Timeline > Timeline hidden list.
3. Tap Show next to the friend whose posts you want to see.
Note: If you choose to unhide the friend's posts, any posts that were previously hidden will not appear again.

Who can see your Timeline posts toggle
If both you and another user have added each other as friends on LINE, you'll be able to see each other's Timeline posts. Posts will not appear to either of you if only one of you has added the other as a friend.
Note: If you make a post Public on Timeline, users other than your friends will also be able to view it.

If you don't want a post to be viewed by certain friends, please configure your Share settings for those friends.

To hide your Timeline posts from friends you add in the future, please turn the Allow new friends setting OFF.

My friend's Timeline posts don't appear anymore toggle
If a friend's Timeline posts no longer appear, it may be that:
• You are blocking your friend.
• Your friend has blocked you.
• You added your friend to your Timeline hidden list.
• Your friend's Share settings for Timeline are set to Excluded.
Note: If you've created a new account, please ask your friend to check their Share settings.

If you've blocked your friend or added them to your Timeline hidden list, you can view their Timeline posts again by unblocking them or removing them from your Blocked users list or Timeline hidden list.

Human silhouette icon at top-right of Timeline posts toggle
The audience of a Timeline post can be limited using privacy settings. The human silhouette icon on a Timeline post means that only some users can see the post.

By tapping the icon, you can go to the note in the 1-on-1 or group chat that it is visible to.

On my profile, I see a post that was only set to share with specific friends on Timeline toggle
Posts you set to share only with yourself or specific friends will also appear on your profile. However, the content of those posts will only appear on your device.

When you choose a privacy setting other than Public for a Timeline post, it will not appear to friends outside of that setting or whom you have set as Excluded in your Timeline Share settings.
Note: The content of posts set to Only Me will not appear to anyone but yourself.

If a user other than your friends or whom you've set as Excluded in your Timeline Share settings visits your profile, they will only see posts that you've made Public.

Since anyone can view Timeline posts that have been made Public, posts from users who aren't your friends will appear in your search results.

Please note that Public posts can also be shared by your friends.

The Basics

Difference between Timeline and profile posts toggle

Both Timeline and your profile are places where you can enjoy communicating with other users.

 

Timeline

From the Timeline page, you can see text messages, photos, videos, stickers, and other activity from your friends and yourself in real time.

 

You can also Like or comment on your friends’ Timeline posts, or reply to comments on your posts.

 

Profile posts

Your profile is a personal space where only your Timeline posts are displayed. For information on how to access your profile, see here.

 

You and your friends can visit each other's profiles and Like or comment on posts. For information on how to see your friends' profiles, see here.

 

Content that you post on your profile will also appear on Timeline, so your friends will be able to view it. If you want to hide a post, please refer to this Help article.

 

Please note that while users who are not your friends can visit your profile from hashtag search results, they can only see posts you've made Public on Timeline.

Other Settings

Changing your cover photo toggle
You can give your profile more personality by setting a cover photo.
Note: Your cover photo is the image displayed behind your profile photo.

To change your cover photo: 
1. Tap your own name at the top of your friend list, or tap your profile icon or name on Timeline.
2. Tap Edit profile > the cover photo at the top of the screen, or tap and hold your cover photo > tap Select cover photo.
3. Select a photo, trim it, and tap Next.
4. Edit the photo any way you like, then tap Done.

Turning off device notifications toggle
You can turn off notifications sent to your device about Timeline activity using the steps below.

1. Go to the More tab > Settings > Notifications.
2. Configure the settings for Timeline Notification.

Even with notifications turned off, you can still check new activity on your Timeline posts by tapping the bell icon at the top of the Timeline.

I found something inappropriate on Timeline toggle
If you find something inappropriate on Timeline, you can report the user who posted it from the Timeline screen.
Note: If you report someone, they won't be notified that you did so.

To report a post:
1. Tap the "..." icon on the top right of the post you want to report.
2. Tap Report.
3. Select your reason for reporting the post, then tap Agree & send.

To report a comment:
1. Tap and hold the comment you want to report.
2. Tap Report.
3. Select your reason for reporting the comment, then tap Agree & send.

Information displayed on your profile toggle
The information below appears on your profile:

• Your profile photo
• Your cover photo
• Your name
• Part of your Status message
• The song you set as background music with LINE MUSIC

By tapping "V," you can display and check your detailed information, which includes:
• Your whole Status message
• Your birthday
Note:
- Your birthday won't be displayed if you haven't registered it, or if you've hidden it.
- Your LINE ID won't be displayed to your friends.

Stories

Posting stories

About stories toggle
The story feature lets you share moments from your day in posts that last for just 24 hours.

Your friends on LINE can see your stories on Timeline and your profile. If you don't want all of your friends to see a story, you can limit who can see it by configuring its privacy settings.

You can post the following types of content in stories:
• Video (up to 15 seconds)
• Photo (one per post)
• Text

You can also post to stories when you change your profile or cover photo.

Posting a story toggle
The story feature can be used from LINE version 9.7.5.
Note: You can update LINE here.

Use one of the following methods to open the Add story screen:
• Tap Timeline > Add story (camera icon) at the top of the screen.
• Tap the Home/Friends tab > your profile > the camera icon or story on your cover photo.
• Open one of your stories and tap Add story at the bottom of the screen.

After opening the Add story screen, follow the steps below for the type of story you want to make.

To share text in your story:
1. From the menu, select Text.
2. Choose a color for your text > type something > tap Done.
3. Tap the arrow.
4. Adjust the position of your text.
Note: You can add stickers and further edit your post from the icons at the top of the screen.
5. Configure your privacy settings and tap the paper airplane icon to post your story.

To share a photo in your story:
1. From the menu, select Photo.
2. Take a photo or tap the square icon at the lower right of the screen and select a photo.
3. Use the icons at the top of the screen to edit your photo.
4. Configure your privacy settings and tap the paper airplane icon to post your story.

To share a video in your story:
1. From the menu, select Video.
2. Take a video or tap the square icon at the lower right of the screen and select a video.
3. Tap the scissors icon to select the part of the video you want to post > Done.
4. Configure your privacy settings and tap the paper airplane icon to post your story.
Note: You can post up to 15 seconds of video.

Liking a friend's story or replying to it with a comment toggle
Liking a story
Like your friends' stories to let them know you enjoyed them. Only you and the friend who posted the story will be able to see that you liked it.

Sending a message
You can reply to a friend's story with a text message. Your message will appear in a chat between just the two of you.
Note: You can only delete sent messages from the chat.

To like a story or send a message: 
1. Tap the story.
2. Tap and hold the sticker icon at the bottom of the screen, or enter a message and tap the paper airplane icon to send it.

Can I edit or delete a story? toggle
Once you've posted a story, it cannot be edited. If you'd like to post different content, you need to delete the story and post a new one.

To delete a story: 
1. Open the story.
2. Tap the options icon at the top right > Delete > Delete.
Note: If you have multiple stories posted, follow the above steps to delete the ones you want when they appear.

Story privacy settings

Excluding friends from seeing your stories toggle
You can select friends to exclude from seeing your stories from the list of viewers.

To exclude a friend: 
1. Tap your story and select the number of viewers at the bottom left of the screen.
2. Tap "..." to the right of the friend you want to exclude from seeing your stories.
3. Tap Exclude [user name].

Excluded friends won't be able to see any of your existing or future story posts. Their names will also appear grayed out from the list of viewers.

If you want to re-include a friend so they can see your stories again, tap "..." next to their name and select Include [user name].

You cannot exclude friends after 24 hours have passed since posting your story.

You can limit who can see your story by changing the privacy settings on the screen that appears before posting your story.

Checking who viewed/liked your story toggle
To check who viewed/liked your story: 
1. From your own story post, tap the number of viewers/likes at the bottom of the screen.
2. Check under the viewer and like tabs.

After 24 hours have passed, you'll still be able to see which users liked your story, but not who viewed it. (Only the number of viewers will appear.)

Sharing stories with certain friends toggle
When posting a story, you can change your privacy settings so that only certain friends can view it. You can also create lists of certain groups and friends to share your stories with.

To change your privacy settings:
1. Tap the privacy settings button at the bottom of the story editing screen.
2. Choose who to share your story with > OK.
Note: The privacy setting you choose will be selected by default the next time you post a story.

If you want to choose which friends to include and exclude from viewing your story, see the information below.

To include/exclude friends:
1. Tap the privacy settings button at the bottom of the story editing screen.
2. Tap ">" next to All friends.
3. Tap Exclude or Include next to the name of your friends.
Note:
- These settings will be applied when you select All friends as your privacy setting.
- In addition to stories, these settings will be applied to all of your other Timeline posts. 

To add a close friend list:
1. Tap the privacy settings button at the bottom of the story editing screen.
2. Tap Add close friend list.
3. Select the friends and group you want to add and tap Next.
4. Enter a name for the list and tap Save.
Note: After saving a list, it will appear in your story privacy settings.

Hiding the stories of certain friends on Timeline toggle
There is no way to only hide the stories of a certain user. If you want to hide all of a certain friend's Timeline posts (including their stories), follow the steps below.

1. Tap the Timeline tab.
2. Tap and hold the profile icon of the friend you want to hide from the list of stories at the top of the screen.
3. Tap "Hide all updates from [user name]" > Hide.
Note:
- After hiding someone, all of their old posts will be deleted from Timeline and any new posts from them will not appear.
- If you hide someone they will not be notified.

To unhide a friend:
1. Tap the Home/Friends or More tab > Settings.
2. Tap Timeline > Timeline hidden list.
3. Tap Show next to the friend you want to unhide.

1. Go to the Timeline tab > tap the bell icon at the top of the screen.
2. Tap Settings at the top right.
3. Turn Story likes ON.

Where can I see my stories after 24 hours have passed? toggle
To see your stories after 24 hours have passed:

1. Go to the Home/Friends or More tab, and tap your profile.
2. Tap Photos & Videos.
3. Tap ">" to the right of Past stories.
4. Tap the story you want to see.
Note: Only you can view the stories saved in Past stories.

If you're having issues with Timeline or your profile, try the general solutions in this Help article.

If you're having either of the issues below on Timeline, you can resolve the issue by rejoining the relevant group.

• The name of a group you were a part of shows up as "Unknown."
• When you tap a post from a group you were a part of, a message says you don't have permissions for the group.
